My partner is a blonde girl named Abigail, who has mesmerizing blue eyes and a cheerful smile. When I gave her a hand-made bookmark with Chinese calligraphy as a gift, she said “Xie xie” to me in Chinese, but it sounded so funny that it made both of us laugh.
First, we went to the Creativity Studio, where the art teacher taught us step-by-step how to make a “universe ball”. It looked not hard at all when the skillful teacher made it, but when we began to try, it was not as easy as we’d expected, and I managed to get glue all over my hands. Thankfully, the ball Abigail and I made together turned out to be very beautiful despite all the difficulties.
Then we had lunch at our school canteen. Abigail was quite interested at the large meatball in her plate which I told her was called “the lion’s head” in Chinese. We chatted about our school life as we ate and laughed a great deal. Abigail kept on telling me what a beautiful school we had and how she’d like to study here, and described her own school as “a dungeon that looked like a box”. I was quite surprised at hearing this, because most of us sometimes complained of our small campus. But now I looked out of the window and, for the first time, began to appreciate the beauty of our school.
After a tour around our campus, it was time to bid farewell. Abigail hugged me tightly after we took a selfie, and promised to keep in touch on WeChat.
于我印象最深的是，参观校园时她说的:“The school is so big and pretty.I'm gonna be here next year.”
On Friday, we received a group of American students from Janesville city. We met at about nine twenty in the morning. We watched a video of our school together and introduced ourselves first. Then we came to the Culture and Innovation Center of our school. Together we made a starry rubber ball. As we were making it, we talked a lot about our own culture and enjoyed a good time. After that, they were guided to the school canteen and experienced a Chinese meal. We showed them around the school after lunch. They left our school at about twelve thirty after we exchanged our gifts. From the activity I improved my English skill and learnt more about American culture. I feel honored for having the chance to meet foreign students. I think the activity is meaningful and I’m looking forward to the next.
Last Friday,I was lucky to represent our school to receive students from Janesville
,Wisconsin. Just as most of us,I was nervous at first, however, that feeling vanished as soon as I met my partner, Kerington ,who was rather outgoing and passionate. After a brief introduction to each other, our teacher led us to the Creativity Centre of our school and guided us to make a star ball, which provided us with a great chance to learn more about
Each other and to exchange our culture. What impressed me the most was her determination to try again after failure and the ability to communicate with me in the way I can understand. After that I also showed her around our school and enjoyed a Chinese meal with her. Finally we took selfies and exchanged our gifts and email address as a souvenir. To me, this activity not only brought myself closer to American culture and broaden my horizons, but also improved my social and English skills through communication with American students, which was definitely an unforgettable experience.
On April 14,2019,we,being receiving delegates of KJ High School, were honored to take the opportunity to meet foreign students from the School District of Janesville. Each 12 of us was appointed to one student, and my partner was Chase Edwardson. During the visit , we took part in the activities together, during which we discussed a lot about the disparities between two countries’ study patterns, daily routine and meals.
Despite the awkward moments when I was at a loss for words, gazing at him , the time when he tried his best to explain a word , and the great culture barriers between us, by what I was impressed most was his consideration, his care for others and his sincerity towards his partner.Just after he had given me the gift he brought,it draw on me that when mentioning a dissimilar culture and that by breaking them, I was forging a step forward. In this event, I’ve learned a lot from the friends coming far away of their diverse culture , bond a friendship regardless of the languages, the countries and it was this opportunity that provides me with an international scope and a lifelong experience that will accompany me all the time, along with friends across the sea.
